COPD

Our respiratory program team members have extensive experience working with patients who experience difficulty breathing because of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD refers to a group of conditions that cause respiratory problems. COPD is a progressive disease, meaning it typically worsens over time.

Our team of physician specialists, respiratory therapists, ACLS-certified nurses, and rehabilitation specialists are trained to treat COPD complications and help patients work toward improving their overall health. During a hospital stay, we monitor patients with COPD for changes in their condition, address complications, and treat symptoms. When appropriate for the patient’s abilities and needs, our physical, occupational, and speech rehabilitation experts can help patients with issues such as weakness, de-conditioning, low exercise tolerance, self-care challenges, communication issues, and swallowing problems.

Lifestyle changes are critical in managing COPD. We provide both patients and their family members with education and support on topics such as smoking cessation, nutrition, infection prevention, energy conservation, and safety. Our team members work hard to ensure that each individual and their family members have access to the information, resources, training, and support they need.
