Andrew Mauricio
At just 34 years old, Andrew Mauricio faced a critical health crisis. Diagnosed with respiratory failure, he was referred to Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Michigan – Taylor Campus, a critical care hospital that specializes in treating patients with complex medical needs who require extended hospitalization.
At the time of his transfer to Vibra Hospital, Andrew was on full mechanical ventilator support and experiencing significant respiratory and physical impairments. He required total assistance with mobility and daily activities. Even simple movements demanded extended rest, and the presence of medical lines and equipment made activity more difficult. Still, Andrew was determined to improve!
Motivated by his goal to breathe independently, walk again, and return home, Andrew committed fully to his care plan. Over the course of approximately two months, he worked closely with Vibra’s interdisciplinary team, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy; respiratory care; nursing; and nutritional services.
With daily effort and clinical support, Andrew made steady progress. He gradually regained strength and endurance, improved his respiratory function, and relearned how to eat, speak, and move safely. His strong work ethic made a lasting impression on the care team and supported his continued recovery.
After achieving meaningful gains, Andrew was able to be discharged home. His team credits his success to his resilience, motivation, and the coordinated efforts of the entire care team.
Andrew, thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We wish you continued success as you return home!
