Angela Johnson
Before becoming seriously ill, Angela Johnson lived at home with her sister, where she enjoyed an independent life and treasured time spent with family.
That independence was interrupted when shortness of breath and abdominal discomfort led Angela to the hospital. There, doctors treated Angela for several serious health concerns, including worsening heart and kidney conditions that affected her breathing, heart rhythm, and overall strength.
As her condition stabilized, Angela transferred to Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Michigan – Taylor Campus, a critical care hospital specializing in complex recovery. Close to home and family, Angela received the continued medical care, respiratory support, and rehabilitation she needed as she began working to regain her strength and independence.
When Angela arrived, she still required a ventilator to help her breathe and was significantly weakened by her illness. She needed assistance with mobility and everyday activities, and even routine tasks were challenging.
Angela’s care team worked together throughout her recovery. Physicians and nurses managed her medical needs, respiratory therapists supported her breathing, and rehabilitation therapists helped her rebuild the strength and skills needed for everyday life.
Gradually, that work began to pay off. Angela successfully came off the ventilator. She regained her ability to eat a regular diet and once again enjoyed talking with the people around her. And as her strength and endurance improved, she began walking again.
Each accomplishment brought Angela closer to the independence she had enjoyed before her hospitalization. With significant progress behind her, Angela was ready for the next step in her recovery: inpatient rehabilitation, where she would continue building her strength and mobility with the goal of returning home.
Angela, it was a privilege to help you reach these important milestones! We wish you continued strength, success, and many meaningful moments as you move forward.
