Jilma Gibson
Before her illness, 82-year-old Jilma Gibson lived independently in her home, tending to her garden and managing her daily life with ease. But after undergoing major abdominal surgery, Jilma faced one of the toughest challenges of her life.
Following her surgery, Jilma experienced significant weakness and fatigue. She required total assistance for all mobility and self-care tasks and was placed on total parenteral nutrition (TPN) for feeding while she healed. Knowing she needed specialized care, Jilma’s medical team referred her to Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Michigan – Taylor Campus, a critical care hospital providing extended recovery and rehabilitation for patients with complex medical needs.
Upon arrival, Jilma was physically dependent and easily fatigued. Even simple movements required frequent rest breaks. But true to her determined nature, she was eager to get stronger. With support from Vibra Hospital’s interdisciplinary team—including nursing, therapy, wound care, pharmacy, and nutrition—Jilma began the hard work of recovery. Over time, she regained strength, began eating regular meals again, and performed daily activities with increasing independence.
Jilma credits her progress to her care team and the love of her children, who kept her motivated to live her best life. Her positive attitude and gratitude inspired everyone around her.
Jilma, your courage and determination have been truly inspiring. It has been an honor to be part of your journey, and we wish you continued health, strength, and joy as you return to the life you love.
