William
Before his accident, William’s life was nonstop. Between work and running his family business, his days were long and busy. But everything changed after an automobile accident left him critically injured and fighting for his life.
When he arrived at Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Michigan – DMC Campus, William relied on a ventilator to breathe. He also needed a feeding tube for nutrition and was extremely weak and lethargic. His condition required extended hospital-level care and the expertise of a team skilled in complex recovery. Vibra Hospital had come highly recommended by a nurse familiar with the hospital’s specialized care, and William’s family felt confident this was the right place for him to begin healing.
From the moment he arrived, William’s care team—including nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, therapists, and physicians—worked closely together to create a personalized plan for his recovery. Progress didn’t happen overnight, but William stayed determined.
With each passing day, he grew stronger and more alert. In time, he was liberated from the ventilator, his tracheostomy was removed, and he was able to eat on his own again. By the time of his discharge, William was walking with a walker or cane and participating fully in his therapy sessions.
When asked what kept him motivated, William shared:
“It wasn’t my time yet. I could have given up, but I chose to fight for life! I wanted to get home to my wife and family and continue running my family business.”
Today, William is rebuilding his strength, enjoying time with his loved ones, and appreciating life at a slower pace. “I had just bought a house when I got hurt,” he said. “Now, I just want to enjoy my wife, our home, our family, and my business. It’s time to slow down and smell the flowers.”
William, your strength and perseverance are inspiring. It has been an honor to be part of your recovery journey, and we wish you health and happiness in this next chapter.
